Modify for Greater Usefullness
Three wardrobes in the house had a problem with mould and a musty smell. I put vents in the top of all of them and either trimmed the bottom of the doors or installed more vents in the bottom to allow cross ventilation. It worked beautifully.
The stone bench top was cut for new stove then fitted, I modified the pot draws, fitted and installed a new dishwasher, removed two overhead cupboards, fitted a new high quality range hood, fitted waterproof flashing to range hood flue at roof level, built dress panelling and two cedar wine racks to fill gap between remaining cupboards and the range hood flue.
The splashback tiling was extended and the under cupboard lighting was upgraded. Made good the cornice then painted or varnished the panelling, wine racks and cornice.
All for about 20% of the cost of a replacement kitchen
A 1990's kitchen was still in good condition but a new stove, range hood and dishwasher was wanted.
