NORTHERN BEACHES of Sydney & part of North Shore

The pictures and links below show photos of specific areas of expertise to demonstrate our well honed skills.

Bathrooms can be such a lovely area to be but most people do not fully comprehend the extent of possible disruption when a bathroom is being renovated.  Bathroom renovations are very technical pieces of work.  Waterproofing bathrooms is absolutely critical to get perfect.  If any stage of the work is done in the wrong order or incorrectly the rectification costs later, if timber work has rotted or water has leaked into an adjoining room or downstairs can be enormous.

Handy Work has renovated and built many bathrooms without any leaks or water damage later but has repaired the damage from water damage from incorrectly renovated bathrooms way too often.

Handy Work is multi-skilled in virtually all areas of property, building & carpentry improvements.

Ensuite Bathroom built from scratch - Mona Vale

This en-suite was off the master bedroom but was a bare room.  We laid out the bathroom, checked plumbing and electrical were appropriate and applied a waterproof membrane under the tile screed.  The tiler added the tile screed to get the correct falls and we applied another waterproof membrane over the tile screed before the tiles were laid.  This is the way all bathrooms should be done but tilers hate being made to do it this way because they have to wait a week between the screed laying and the last membrane.  Hence why so much water damage occurs in bathrooms these days.

We made a wooden vanity from Highly Moisture Resistant board with a timber grain veneer, then fitted the stone top, hand basin, shelves, an inline exhaust fan to minimise noise, air intake vents to ensure the fan actually worked (another thing most bathrooms are missing - hence too many steamy bathrooms), fitted a long mirror, architraves, towel rails, soap holders etc.

Replace Vanity in Bathroom - Manly

The owner wanted to get rid of the old timber vanity from the seventies and replace it with a modern gloss white model.  Handy Work removed the old vanity, installed the new one, fitted the waste and taps and then sealed around all edges to ensure no water slipped down behind it or under it when kids splashed around in the basin.

New Bathroom with disability access capabilities - Fairlight

The old bathroom in this Northern Beaches home was poky and difficult to access as well as being old (looked like a Swedish sauna).  One of the children had an operation which left her partially disabled and therefore disability access was essential, particularly in the early days after the disability happened.

A spare bedroom was stripped, the floor leveled, re-floored, re-plastered, re-plumbed, re-wired and waterproof membranes under and above the tile screed was applied.  A laundry was incorporated into a cupboard within the bathroom and Hebel blocks were used to install the bath. Then the whole area was tiled, the shower installed and was functional before the daughter came home.
